Emergency Preparedness Week

05/03/2010
No one thinks it will happen to them, but natural disasters can occur when you least expect it. It is important to think about these situations so you can prepare yourself for if they were to happen.

The following are just a few quick and simple things you can do to get you and your family prepared in case of an emergency.

Talk About It:

it's important for parents to talk to their kids about what to do in an emergency, so it doesn't come as much of a shock to them if the situation arises. Knowledge is key.

Make a Plan:

sit down with your family and discuss what each person should do in an emergency whether they are at home or not. It is important to make sure everyone has a way to reach each other if they are not all at home.

Put together an Emergency Kit:

an emergency kit can be created from items a persons likely already has in their home. When creating the kit, it is important to keep in mind that you will need enough supplies to last approximately 72 hours.  Items to include in the kit: flashlight, extra batteries, water, canned or packaged food, first aid kit, and a radio.
